The Book Thief
Markus Zuzak
Hello everybody!
We hope you are having a fun day so far!
This is one of Rebecca’s favourite books. She first read it on holidays with her family in Biarritz and cried for about 2 weeks after she finished the book. Though this may sound like a bad thing, and admittedly it couldn’t have been very pleasant for the rest of the family, this was important to Rebecca as it was the first time that a book had such a powerful emotional effect on her.
This is the tale of a young girl living in Nazi Germany, told from the perspective of Death, at a time in history when Death was such a prominent spectre. This story is about the importance of words and books, and depicts reading and education as a form of rebellion.
Barry has not yet read this book, but when Rebecca found a summary of it online to show him, he quickly asked her to stop reading because she was spoiling the plot! Barry will read this book after the wedding, though he probably won’t turn into an emotional wreck afterwards… but you never know!
We hope you guys are enjoying the wedding so far, and look forward to bumping into you on the dance floor later on!
