Matilda
Roald Dahl
Hello to all you lovely Cotters!
We hope you like the book we chose for this table. Roald Dahl was a staple for us both as children, and we both adored his books. Matilda is a recent favourite for us, as we saw the live musical in London not too long ago (written by our favourite comedian, Tim Minchin, which is pretty cool!)
Matilda is great for a few reasons. It celebrates reading, intelligence, and curiosity, which is still a pretty rare thing. But more importantly, it’s a great book for reminding grown-ups not too be so grown-up all of the time, to learn new things and wonder at how weird and unpredictable the world is. And to laugh and have fun with people.
Some of our favourite books, which are on other tables here, are sometimes far too serious for their own good. Matilda is an awesome antidote to this and it reminds Barry of Christmas breakfasts with all you guys, where the grown-ups also happen to be the biggest children - and that’s pretty great company to keep.
We hope you have a great night tonight, and we will talk to you all soon!
